Minnesota STR Regulations
Minnesota State Sales Tax: 6.875%
Minnesota short-term rental hosts must collect and remit a 6.875% state sales tax on all stays under 30 days. This includes the total rental cost, cleaning fees, and any other guest charges, for both platform and direct bookings.
Lodging License
In Minnesota, all short-term rental properties must hold a lodging license as defined under Minn. Stat. § 157.15. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is responsible for licensing and inspecting these establishments to ensure they meet health and safety standards. If you operate a short-term rental, make sure your property is properly licensed through MDH before hosting guests.
